How to Stand Out in a Virtual Job Interview
First of all, if you’ve landed yourself an interview for a new job, congratulations! You’re already half-way there. The interview is the most important part of your job search, but the interview process has changed as a result of COVID. You’re now most likely to have a video interview, which presents itself with a whole new set of challenges. Here are some tips to ace your virtual interview and land yourself the job.
Before the interview: Practice!
Go through a mock interview with a friend or family member. Test out the features of your video application to ensure you don’t run into any errors during the interview. Even if technology isn’t always your friend, it’s important to demonstrate that you’re keeping up with the times and can adapt to these changes.
Good lighting, good background
Set up the ideal location for your video interview. Make sure you have decent lighting and your background is not too distracting. If you have can’t find a good location in your house, download a simple background from the Internet and set it up in your video chat application before the interview begins.
Dress to impress
Even though the hiring manager may not be able to see all of you, this is still their first impression of you. Take the extra time before the interview to freshen up, dress professionally and, most importantly, wear a smile! Positivity and a good attitude will get you far in any job, and hiring managers recognize that, even over a video call.
Good luck in your interview!
