5 Unproductive Work Habits
Are you struggling to stay productive at work? There are many reasons why you might be falling behind, and we’ve listed a few in this article. If you are guilty of any of these bad habits, kick them in the butt right now!
Multitasking
Two things will happen when you multitask – you will decrease your productivity and increase the time it takes to complete your tasks. Your brain can, and should, only focus on one thing at a time. With multitasking comes the risk of more errors and a lower quality of work.
Seeking Perfection
If you spend too much time trying to fix every little detail, you won’t have enough time to focus on the larger, more significant tasks. Figure out what is most important and devote as much time as possible to those tasks. Don’t worry about being perfect. Instead, concern yourself with the overall quality and effectiveness of your work.
Not Prioritizing
Always complete the most urgent tasks first. List your tasks by importance and complete each task in order. If you put off the more important tasks, you will get caught in a web of deadlines that you can’t get out of. Not prioritizing your tasks will lead to more stress, and rushed work.
Over-Ambitious Goals
Always focus on quality over quantity. Setting too many goals doesn’t mean you’ll get more done; it just means you will be constantly divided with too many things on your mind. Goals can still be challenging, but when they are attainable, you will be more productive and satisfy both your employers and yourself. Know your limitations and define a reasonable set of goals within a set time frame.
Not Asking For Help
There is no shame in asking for help. Rather, it makes you more efficient. Instead of racking your brain and struggling to solve a problem, seek help and guidance. You will be more efficient by saving time, and you will learn and grow in the process.
