Summer Safety Tips for Industrial Workers
Warm weather is approaching! This is great news for those weekend activities in the sun, but it’s important to adjust to these rising temperatures while on the clock. Follow these tips to stay protected and avoid heat stroke or dehydration.
Wear lightweight clothing
It’s important to select the right type of clothing that will be comfortable and heat resistant, all while conforming to your employer’s dress code. Lightweight and natural materials, such as linen or cotton, will be more breathable and allow sweat to evaporate, keeping you dry. Avoid thick clothing and synthetic materials, as these will likely cause discomfort on a warm day.
Stay hydrated
Make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day. Don’t just wait until you feel thirsty to start drinking water. It will keep your body cool and refreshed, prevent dehydration, and give you energy. If possible, keep a water bottle on you while you work.
Take short breaks to recharge
Allow yourself a few minutes to cool down and refresh so you can get back to work with maximum energy and productivity. Use these breaks to hydrate, eat a healthy and energizing snack, stretch, and sit down. It’s important to monitor your energy levels throughout the day and make sure you are taking the necessary steps to prevent heat exhaustion.
